There is great beauty in going deep.
For the longest time, I have been wading in the shallows, longing to go deep. Most of the writing I have done so far has come in the form of brief posts on Instagram. Short and succinct by design, these posts may offer a few coins of wisdom to the hurried passer-by, but no more than that.
Deep writing, on the other hand, can be a goldmine of insight, complexity and nuance. When one crafts a piece of deep writing, they can line the contours of the piece with intricacy and detail. This places deep writing on a plane of value far above the level of shallow writing. Deep writing is deeply valuable.
This brings me to the main point of this blog post: I would like to share the reason I began this blog. It is this: I began this blog to allow myself the freedom and the opportunity to practice writing deeply.
My goal for this blog is to explore the ideas and concepts that fascinate me, in-depth. Simply put, I want to do justice to the ideas that I share. I want to convey them in all their richness and their majesty. As I mentioned earlier, the only way to do that is to write with depth.
The ideas that I am hoping to explore can all be connected to a single word: ecology. To me, ecology is a study of relationships and connections between many (seemingly) separate entities.
Therefore, simply put, the ideas that I hope to explore in this blog are ones of relationship. I want to explore the myriad ways that we can build healthy and life-giving relationships with ourselves, with each other and with the greater natural world.
In a world where relationships are fraying all over the planet, I hope my work will help the world to heal. I hope I can help to knit the world back together, one tenuous relationship at a time.
In summary, the practice of writing deeply will allow me to explore the ideas I love in all their richness and grandeur. This blog is precisely the space for me to go deep in my exploration of these ideas. These ideas are all about ecology, or the relationships that are possible for us.
I hope you will join me on my journey into the sprawling possibilities that could come of this space. May you have the courage to live deeply.
With warmth,
Julian
